Gerhard Richter

Gerhard Richter (b. 1932, Dresden) is a German artist whose practice has reshaped postwar painting through a sustained dialogue between photography, abstraction, and historical memory. After training in Dresden and later at the Kunstakademie Duesseldorf, Richter developed blurred photo-based paintings, color charts, gray monochromes, landscapes, portraits, glass works, and layered abstractions that question how images acquire authority.
