Biography

Jeff Koons (b. 1955) is an American artist widely recognized as one of the most commercially successful and market-significant figures in contemporary art. Emerging in the 1980s alongside the Neo-Pop movement, Koons built his practice around the elevation of banal, mass-produced, and kitsch imagery—inflatable toys, vacuum cleaners, balloon animals—into meticulously fabricated, high-polish sculpture that interrogates taste, consumerism, and value. His stainless-steel Balloon series, along with bodies of work including Banality, Made in Heaven, Celebration, and Gazing Ball, have made him a defining presence at the intersection of Pop Art and blue-chip contemporary production. Koons's works are produced through highly technical studio processes and issued in small editions, making documented provenance, edition number, and fabrication records especially important to authentication. Koons has repeatedly set auction records for a living artist, and his work remains among the most closely watched in the contemporary secondary market. For collectors, Koons represents both a culturally significant holding and one of the clearest bellwethers of blue-chip contemporary demand.
