Biography

Christopher Wool is an American artist known for paintings, works on paper, prints, and photographs that question how images and language are built, repeated, erased, and reproduced. His practice includes stenciled words, sprayed marks, silkscreened patterns, overpainting, and mechanical transfer, often turning process into visible tension. Wool's work moves between abstraction and text, refinement and abrasion, image and cancellation. Emerging in New York in the 1980s, he developed a vocabulary that remains influential for contemporary painting. For collectors, his practice offers a rigorous examination of surface, gesture, typography, and the instability of visual meaning.
