About the Artwork

Three Guardians: Gatekeeping the Heat and Cold is based on Miwa Komatsu's 2021 painting of the same title, translating one of her most recognisable spiritual compositions into a limited-edition print. Three guardian beings occupy the centre of the image, embodying the artist's long-standing exploration of protection, transformation and the invisible forces that connect the natural and spiritual worlds.

Produced by Avant Arte as an edition of 50, the work combines archival pigment printing with a matte varnish seal and silkscreen shimmer layers to preserve the depth, luminosity and intricate surface qualities of the original composition. The result reflects Komatsu's distinctive visual language—vivid colour, symbolic guardian figures and densely layered detail—while making one of her important contemporary images available in a highly collectible edition.

Tessera Perspective

We selected this edition because it captures the essence of Miwa Komatsu's artistic practice in a format that remains accessible to collectors. The composition brings together several of her recurring guardian figures rather than focusing on a single spiritual presence, making it a strong representation of the themes that define her work.

Beyond its visual impact, the edition benefits from a relatively small release of 50 impressions, museum-quality production and publication by Avant Arte. For collectors seeking a representative print that reflects Komatsu's established visual language and contemporary printmaking standards, this edition offers a compelling balance between artistic significance and production quality.
